Are you looking back with fond memories or wishing for brighter days ahead as you bid farewell to a year that did not meet your expectations.

Regardless of which it might be it’s time to start looking forward and to put some sort of game plan on the table. If it’s your finances that suffered put a strict budget into effect and start the year off with the intent to clear your debts. If it’s your appearance or your professional or personal life you have to stop hemming and hawing and start to make whatever adjustments are necessary.

I know it’s easy to say and if you just can’t seem to pull things together don’t be too hard on yourself it may not be the right time for you to do so. Let me tell you the signs most likely to have the discipline to follow through with a new years resolution this year.

Aries will have the discipline but even so it will still be an ongoing battle to finish what they start.

Taurus may be able to get a handle on professional goals but only if they are willing to accept or ask for a little help.

Gemini will have enough discipline but nothing will be good enough or big enough to satisfy the Twins.

Cancer will have plenty of opportunities but will fall short if too many responsibilities are taken on.

Leo should be able to make some hefty financial gains but it will probably be at t he expense of someone else’s losses.

Virgo will be able to form partnerships that will allow the freedom to explore new avenues and incorporate old skills.

Libra must be willing to do things a little differently and with a lighthearted attitude in order to avoid depression and stagnation.

Scorpio can make some serious money by completing the creative projects that have been shelved for various reasons.

Sagittarius will tend to overdo making it necessary to call in favors if there are going to be any gains whatsoever in 2010.

Capricorn will be drawn in two different directions, one that leads to new adventures and friendships and the other frustration and setbacks.

Aquarius will be able to put an unusual plan to work in order to come up with a lifestyle that will contribute to the revival of old goals.

Pisces will take advantage of any means to expand but in doing so may end up in the poor house if a budget is not put in place.

Q. I worked 20 years for a company, 10 years in manufacturing, went to school, got an associate’s degree in accounting and have spent the last 10 years in an accounts payable department.

December of 2008 I was laid off due to a slowdown. I have had only two interviews since. My husband (born June 16, 1963) has a job in manufacturing, but that is uncertain, too.

I like to paint and have sold some of my paintings. Will ever get a job in accounts payable again? Should I pursue a creative career? I was born March 22, 1957 at 9:10 a.m.

Aries Out of Work

A. You should be working in both fields. Consider starting an accounting company from home, offering your services to small business owners. That will allow you time to work on your creative skills and develop some interest in the art community in your area.

You do have talent and, although it shows primarily in an area of your chart that deals with hobbies, I feel that next year you will have greater opportunities to sell your paintings. Someone like an art agent or a gallery will help you bridge the gap between your creations and potential buyers.

Your husband’s chart indicates that he may face some setbacks early next year but if he can weather the slowdown, he will start to see things pick up next summer. At that time, there will be clear indication of the direction he should choose when the work area of his chart gains momentum throughout 2011.

Q. A friend/lover and I parted ways after a terrible dispute on Aug. 16, 2008 — the day of the partial eclipse. My former friend is a strong-willed Aries, born March 31, 1978.

Ever since the event and his painful e-mail that followed a couple of weeks later, I have been in a state of emotional upheaval. I long to see him and worry I never will. Is there hope for me and will my love for this person remain unrequited?

Grieving Scorpio

A. Your Aries man matches up quite well but signs of a sudden and painful ending are present, leaving little room to backtrack or start over.

The day of the eclipse should have been a highly passionate day for the two of you but instead, transiting Mars was adversely positioned to your Aries natal Jupiter and fell in an area of your chart that deals with your relationships and communication. Hence, there was the big bang (so to speak) and the unnecessary verbal abuse that followed.

You can try to reunite with him late this year or early next year, but don’t push it. A friendly call or e-mail will suffice. If he is going to come around, it probably will take him until the summer of next year to do so.

Should he not make a move in your direction, you will have some very favorable transits for love and relationships beginning late February.

Q. I was born April 25, 1977 at 8 a.m. I choose to be single at this time because I am back in school and focusing on improving myself. However, I met a man whom I have fallen for and now I am wondering what to do.

His birth date is Aug. 12, 1973. He is a “bad boy.” My heart keeps wishing he will change his ways and fall for me as hard as I’ve fallen for him. Any thoughts on this person or on future relationships?

Heartbroken Taurus

A. Your Leo does have some of the bad boy traits but the one that concerns me the most is his ability to tell a story or — to put it bluntly — fib and get away with it.

Your comparison does denote sorrow and I believe this one is best left alone. If you intend to play the game of love with this man, protect your heart and your head and, most of all, avoid pregnancy. It is apparent that the likelihood of this happening is prevalent and will lead to a very dead end.

Your chart indicates you will be in a good position to find love next summer if no one is standing in your doorway, so dump this dude and make room for Mr. Right.
